Wordpress Smilies

So you’ve got your awesome Wordpress blog installed and you’re ready to start blogging, right? I bet you can’t wait to get that first post up to see all of your blog fans respond and make your blog the most popular of all blogs! Okay — so maybe I over reacted a little bit, but there is one thing that has always annoyed me with Wordpress. The smilies. Yes, those little guys that populate your post for every special combination of characters you type up.

Now, I’m not saying that the use of smilies annoy me. Never! I’ve always loved smilies. They really know how to give feeling that you’re trying to portray. I’m actually referring to the design of the smilies. Matt Read did a very nice job with these smilies, but when you see them on every website that uses a Wordpress back-end, they get old fast.

So what are you to do when you don’t want these old outdated smilies replaced? Well, you could just find some new smiley graphics and replace them in your ./wp-includes/images/smilies. Or you could use a simple plug-in called Smilies Themer by Ricardo Gonzalez.

Just install it and navigate to your plug-ins in your admin panel to activate it. Once it’s activated you can switch your smilies between 14 different themes! That’s a lot of smilies!
