California

Friday, November 21st, 2008

You know, I really miss California. After visiting for almost near a month, I can’t believe such a place exists. Where I live now, Iowa, is so depressing. It’s cold, everyone works on a farm, and all you can see for miles is flat land with corn growing on it. In the winter you just see dead crops for miles. That isn’t so cool to look at! In San Diego, you have beautiful mountains surrounding you, a nice warm climate, and the ocean breeze… Seriously! Why am I here?

I really wish I could afford to just move down there in a studio apartment. I don’t think I could on a part time job, though. RadioShack only pays minimum wage and then commission — and I never get much in commission unless it’s a really good week. But that’s because Iowa is so … dead.

Ok, enough dreaming. I’m going down to Missouri for a weekend visit to my girlfriend’s brother for Thanksgiving.

Peace.

Gallery Additions

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed or not, but I’ve been adding my college exercise drawings to a new image set in my portfolio. Right now, these images are from my Analysis of Form class which is a foundation course that is very challenging.

Analysis of Form Description

This course offers an in-depth study of classical drawing principles in which 3D form is rendered through the analysis of light and shadow relationships. Concepts including the 5-value system, composition, value pattern and form/cast shadow edges are intensively explored through still-life, drapery and plaster cast studies. In addition, an introduction to drawing the nude figure and concepts of spatial depth utilizing linear and atmospheric perspective will be explored. Traditional drawing techniques employing charcoal, paper and other media will be introduced.

There isn’t much more to say other than to go see this gallery and let me know what you think!

Unfinished Project: DSL08

DSL 08 Promo Unfinished

So a while back (April 2008, to be exact) I decided to learn After Effects. Some people were doing some pretty amazing things with it so I thought I would take a shot at it. Of course, this isn’t the best. I wanted to make a promotional video for Digital Storm LAN 2008. It never ended up getting finished, I forget why I stopped working on it, but I think it was because I had to work so much. I’m not entirely sure, but here is that video I was working on that I’ll never finish and probably just leave as small memory on my blog. :p

Work, Kitty, and Stress

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Well it’s been a while since I’ve posted an actual ‘blog’ post that actually states what is going on in my life right now. So here is an update.

Work has been killing me lately. It’s down to a manager, assistant manager, and two part-timers. I’m one of those part-timers. This past week I was scheduled for 37 hours. That’s a lot for a part-time worker. My other co-worker had only 22 and she is the one who has to pay rent and school fee’s. I ended up switching a few of my days with her so she could get more hours. I ended up with 33 hours this week now. That was a relief, but still — it’s killing me. We need 2 more part-time associates. Unfortunately I can’t say anymore about things that are bugging me with work because it’s inside company information. :(

Mom is moving to low-rent housing and I have to move in with my dad because my income makes it too much for her to qualify for the low-rent housing — this means we have to get rid of her animals. I really don’t want to and when I found out I couldn’t keep living with mom, I never wanted to continue with the whole moving thing, but she insists. So I guess what mom wants, she’ll get. I’m still very upset about the whole deal.

I ended up finding a home for my kitty, Lacey. I think she’ll love her new owners. They want a cat really bad and I’m willing to give her away for free as long as they’re good to her. Fortunately, the new owners is my co-worker and her boyfriend. I figured I could visit Kitty once in a while so it’s not that big of a deal. Lacey’s not going to enjoy the move, though. She’s probably going to be devastated the first few weeks. Hopefully she’ll like the new owners though.

Overall I’ve been under a lot of stress. Between this move, work, college, and money I think I just need a huge breather. Hopefully I can relax here in a few months when Christmas gets closer.

Oh, before I forget! I added some of my tutorials to the website. You can access them through the top menu or the side menu to the left. They’re labeled “Tutorials.”

Have a good one!

Website Finally Done!

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

It’s about time, right? While I call it ‘done’ I’m still finding bugs here and there that I’m fixing — If you see any bugs or have any suggestions on improving the website, head over to the contact page and let me know about it! There’s still a few things I’m tweaking here and there, but this is the final result that you see right now. I might extend the portfolio a little bit by adding comments to it, but that’s not on my top priorities right now.

Some Updates

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

RadioShack. Our RadioShack store is getting an ‘upgrade’! We’re basically getting new display items and we’re rearranging the entire store for a new updated look. Unfortunately, the employees have to move everything! The only thing we’re not in charge of is taking out a wall and moving the parts drawers. It’s going quite well and I’ve done a few wall panels of new merchandise, but not much because every time I work during the upgrade I’m only putting in 3 hours of work. Today, however, I’ll be working on the upgrade from 2:30pm to 8pm tonight.

Music. I just got a copy of the most beautiful soundtrack in my opinion. Casper! Composed by James Horner, it’s very spooky yet fun and beautiful at many times. He took a great advantage with the harpsichord that is used for that “creepy” feeling and he achieves it well! You’ll have to play the YouTube video at the end of this post to hear the music. :)

Sound Card! Totally bought a sound card! I love it! I’ve got surround sound now! :D I’ve been playing my games and watching my movies with it and it makes such a larger impact on you when surround sound is available! It’s so awesome!

AAU. So I’ve received my first book for my classes that start on September 4th. By the time classes start I’m going to have it finished! It’s such an interesting book! You should check it out! Now I just have to buy a few more things and I should be all set! :D

Scholarship. While I am going to Academy of Art University, there is a scholarship contest going on for Vancouver Film School. It’s basically a deal where you show your portfolio and give honest answers to essay questions and you could win a full ride scholarship to Vancouver Film School’s 3D Animation & VFX course. I’m going to go ahead and put in my application for the scholarship and see if I win anything. It’s worth a shot, right? I’ve already started working on a portfolio — I’m also trying to get this website fully functioning so I can display my portfolio for the whole world to see :P

Wrap-up. Yep, I think that’s about it. Guess I’ll post again soon!

One Last Wish:

New Theme!

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

Yep! Here it is. Here is the beginnings of my new overhaul. If you find any bugs at all, please let me know in some way or another. I’m very excited to get this done! All that needs done for the full overhaul is the plugins coded to all of my interactive things for the rest of the website. :)

Enjoy!

Overhaul Going on!

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Yep, the overhaul is happening right now. I’m coding the WordPress theme right now! Did you want to see a ‘working’ version of the layout???

Website Overhaul

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

So I’ve been thinking lately — I’m going to be going to college here soon and as I learn I’m going to be creating more and more digital images and animations. While I do have a website that is halfway functional (AbsolutelyGeek.com) I only have an about and contact section truly working.

A while back I decided I want to have a blog that had more functionality and decided to go with WordPress. Now I have a subdomain for my blog (Which you’re on right now) and a domain name for a portfolio. This is very unpractical — I don’t want to have two different websites with two different themes along with them.

The past few weeks I’ve been working on a prototype layout that I would code for WordPress to be used on my main domain that would house my portfolio and my blog and all other pages that I decide to create.

While the website isn’t finished, I did happen to come up with a logo for the absolutelygeek domain name. It’s about time, huh? I’m writing this post from my high school computer lab, so I cannot show you what the logo looks like just yet, but I can try to upload that tonight to show everyone.

The logo consists of the words “Absolutely” and “Geek.” Between these two words sits a small geek smiley face. Hard to explain, but I’ll try to post this tonight after work or even before work if I can.

As I get the new website up and running I’ll be asking for feedback from everyone who reads my blog (A very small handful of people). It’s up to all of you to let me know what you like or dislike about the new design and how I could restructure things. This new website needs to be as professional as can be as I will probably list the website on my resume for future employment.

Keep on geekin’

Update 3 hours later:

Here is the logo.

First Post!

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

So I’ve decided to delete my KillaBlog and start with something new.

As of right now I don’t think anyone really knows about this blog except for me and a few people who probably won’t even check this website. If they do, hi! :P

I’m quite the one to discuss anything on a blog. ?My old blog contained things from problems with my parents to homosexuality. I don’t really care if someone finds what I’m writing about to be ‘innappropriate.’ ?I don’t like to keep some topics ‘hush’ that the rest of the world keeps quiet. So that’s just a fair warning right there.

This was meant to be just a first post to test out WordPress as a new blog software. ?I guess this comes to an end now. :)
